The Voyager Solar System Model

As an antique collector and seller, we searched for years for an antique orrery that we could afford. Even the plastic models that we used in high school are well outside of our price range. Try and find a Trippensee model made in the past few decades and you'll see what I mean. We were looking for a big showy antique solar system model / planetarium that would enhance our home and instead we compromised. This is a hard plastic model, which has some weight to it and which has been artistically enhanced to look just like burled wood. The armatures are metal. This model includes brass fittings and brass legs. 
 
This is approximately 9.5" tall and extends about 18" out from the center. 

We do not consider this a toy for anyone under the age of 12 as it has been carefully and painstakingly artist enhanced. But with guidance, it's a great way to learn about the solar system and it looks incredible in a room. We keep ours in the den. It would be perfect for a library or a man cave. 
 
This model includes a blue planetarium cap for astronomy use. 
 
No two of our solar systems are the same but they are all wonderful. These run on 4 AA batteries (included.) What we like about this  version is that there are two motors which run independently of one another - the smaller planets rotate at a faster speed than the larger planets. The sun does light up. It is much quieter than other models we've seen.
